What is the Spring Thing 2025 Interactive Fiction Festival?

The Spring Thing is an annual festival that celebrates new interactive fiction titles from all kinds of people from all over the globe.

The timeline for this year’s festival is:

  • March 30, 2025: Deadline for entries to be submitted.

  • April 9, 2025: Ribbon nominations open.
  • May 9, 2025: Ribbon nominations close; ribbon winners to be announced shortly.

The Spring Thing has been held annually since 2002 and is a smaller, informal counterweight to the busier Interactive Fiction Competition that is held in the Fall.

The Spring Thing also allows for all kinds of new text games, whether you’re working on a gamebook, text adventure, visual novel, narrative roguelike, or some other type of wild text-based experiment.

The festival also welcomes diverse voices and populations that have been traditionally underrepresented in gaming. These include women, people of colour, queer, and LGBTQIA+ folk, neuro-diverse, or disabled creators.

People from all walks of life are encouraged to join the Spring Thing 2025. For more information on how to submit an entry, you can do so here.
